Our History

Greater Coleman Temple has humble beginnings as the Johnson Street Mission Church of God in Christ. The church was originated September 7, 1957 in the living rom of our founders Dr. Hurley J. Coleman, Sr. and Dr. Martha W. Coleman. The first sancturary was the attached garage tp Pastor Coleman's home located at 2621 Johnson Street, Saginaw, MI. IN 1958, the Lord gave Pastor a vision to build a church. With a fewer than 30 members and great faith, on the first Sunday in June 1961a groundbreaking ceremony was held, in 1965 the vision became a reality. The name of the little mission was changed to Liberty Park Church of God in Christ.

In 1972, the first mortgage was burned four years ahead of maturity. In April 1975, the church began the ground breaking for Phase II. In July 1979, eight years ahead of maturity, the secong mortgage was paid in full. God continued to inspire Pastor Coleman and in August of 1989, we broke ground for Phase III. This addition would provide classrooms, restrooms and office space.

In 1997, Pastor and Mother Coleman both recieved earned Doctorate Degrees for their work in the Ministry. 1988, Pastor and mother celebrated 50 years of salvation and marraige. On December 14, 1999, Mother Coleman went home to be with the Lord. Though he missed her deeply, Pastor Coleman continued to lead Coleman Temple sharing his vision for the greater work. On July 2, 2001, the Lord called him home.

God did not leave us without leadership. July 2001, Supt. Hurley J. Coleman Jr., and Evangelist Sandra Coleman became our leaders and the vision continued. Within the first year, our church family was visited again and the Lord called the third part of the "orginal wrecking team" Evangelist Hurlette Coleman-Dickens. In May 2002, Greater Coleman Temple completed the remodeling of the sanctuary, which increased our seating capacity, but there was more to come. The church had outgrown its capacity becuase of rapid increase in church membership. We were led to move to our current worship facility The World Outreach Campus to comfortably house our growing congregation. As we continue to grow, we know that God is performing a good work in us, as we move into a greater call to service.
